Series of violence rocked the presidential and national assembly elections held in some parts of Rivers state. This is the moment some National Youth Service Corps members working as ad hoc staff and officials Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), scampered into nearby bush for safety after thugs invaded their polling unit withing the state. A female corp member broke down in tears while hiding as she was consoled by her colleague. The thugs stormed the polling unit with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, carting away ballot boxes, looting and robbing electoral officers.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife Dolapo Osinbajo have voted in the presidential election on Saturday at the Code 33, Unit 2, Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos. Voting commenced at 10:34 a.m., due to late arrival of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Osinbajo who arrived the unit at 10:28 a.m., voted at 10:53 a.m. while Dolapo voted at 10:55 a.m. Speaking with newsmen shortly afterwards, Osinbajo expressed optimism that the exercise would be fair, credible and peaceful. The unit had witnessed early arrival of voters who started filing out at 5 a.m. Voters are orderly seated while waiting for voting to commence. Popular Nigerian actress, Omoni Oboli, was on ground coordinating voters as they arrived in order to maintain orderly exercise when voting commences.

News reached us that some thugs came to a poling place in  Okota, Lagos  and they set the votes on fire. People ran for their lives when the thugs came, they lit up the elation votes in the ballot box and took off. A woman could be heard screaming “  They burnt our votes, can’t you see they just burnt our votes” . We are waiting to know what effect this will have on the election.  There are security people assigned to all polling places but we are not sure if the security team stepped up to the thugs. Security operatives have arrested two men alleged to be members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State with Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs. Both men identify as Christopher and Terseer Iordye were nabbed today with a total of 43 PVCs, Daily Trust reports. They were caught with the PVCs at Gbajimgba Secondary School polling units in Benue state. While Christopher was arrested with 6 cards, Terseer was nabbed with 37.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the list of Permanent Voter Cards collected for the 2019 general elections with Lagos State topping the list, followed by Kano and Kaduna states, respectively. According to the list, 5,531,389 people collected PVCs in Lagos State, while 4,696,747 registered voters in Kano State collected their PVCs. In Kaduna State, 3,648,831 persons picked up their PVCs followed closely by Katsina State with 3,187,988 million cards collected. Rivers State rounds up the top five with 2,833,101 PVCs collected. In terms of percentage of registered voters that collected their PVCs, Lagos is not in the top 10 with 84.19 percent of the 6,570,291 registered voters in the state collecting their PVCs. 1,038,902 million voters (the highest for any state) did not collect PVCs in Lagos State.
